The Value of Cultural and Linguistic Competence in Research
Description: Join the Evidence Quality and Reach Hub (EQR Hub) for a free webinar on the value and importance of integrating cultural and linguistic competence (CLC) into research. Experts, Yan Wang and Robyn Madison, will facilitate a discussion on how one’s culture worldview affects research, share the implications of not attending to CLC in research and provide examples of how to incorporate culturally and linguistically appropriate standards and approaches in research. Event materials will be archived on the CADRE website.

Follow-Up Opportunity: All registrants will be invited to a multi-part workshop on integrating CLC into survey measures and collecting survey data. The workshop will provide guidance on how to write or select survey items with a lens toward CLC, review the importance and strategies for pretesting survey items, and provide guidance on sampling and survey administration to reach prioritized groups. Aspiring and current NSF grantees with every level of experience are welcome to join!

About the EQR Hub: The primary purpose of the Evidence Quality and Reach Hub (EQR Hub) is to provide needs-driven virtual learning opportunities for current and aspiring National Science Foundation Discovery Research PreK–12 (DRK–12) grantees. These education sessions prepare grantees to advance the quality of STEM research and design in DRK–12 projects and enhance broader impacts across the program portfolio.

Accessibility: We strive to host inclusive, accessible events that enable all individuals to engage and participate fully. To request an accommodation or for inquiries about accessibility, please indicate your needs when you register or contact Carol Felicio, at cfelicio@air.org.
